Does Editing a Listing Bump It on Depop?
Two different "freshness" actions — don't confuse them
| Refresh (edit & save) | Relist (delete & repost) | |
|---|---|---|
| Listing ID | Same | New |
| Views & likes | Kept | Reset to zero |
| Price / discount | Unchanged | Discounts reset |
| Effect | Small, frequent freshness nudge | Re-enters the "New" feed with a bigger one-time boost |
| Best for | Daily shop maintenance | Dead listings with no engagement to lose |
The confusion matters because the two actions suit different listings. Refreshing a listing with 200 likes throws away nothing. Relisting that same listing wipes its social proof and starts it from zero — usually a bad trade, since Depop ranks popularity well above listing age.
How the freshness signal works
Depop's search and feed ranking rewards a handful of things, and freshness is the one sellers can influence daily:
- Listing freshness — recently listed or refreshed items get a temporary visibility boost. This is what an edit-and-save triggers.
- Popularity — views, likes and adds-to-bag. Cumulative, and weighted heavily.
- Relevance — how well your title, category, attributes and tags match the buyer's search. Fresh-but-irrelevant still loses.
- Seller activity — an actively maintained shop (fresh listings, refreshes, quick replies) reads as trustworthy to the ranking system.
An edit-and-save is the cheapest way to feed the first signal without touching the others. It's a nudge, not a reset button — but compounded daily across a whole shop, the nudge is substantial.
Does the edit need to change anything?
No — an empty edit and save refreshes the position. That said, if a listing genuinely needs work, fold the improvement into the refresh:
- A clearer first photo (the single highest-leverage change)
- Fill in missing brand, size, colour or condition fields — empty fields make you invisible to filtered searches
- Add measurements if sizing is ambiguous
- A price check against recently sold listings (asking prices lie; sold prices don't)
One caveat: mass-editing every listing's title in one sitting is a pattern worth avoiding — it looks automated in the bad way. Steady, paced activity is what the algorithm (and the trust systems behind it) reward.
How to refresh your whole shop without the daily grind
Doing this by hand at 30–60 seconds per listing is the hidden tax of selling on Depop. Depop Bump automates exactly the edit-and-save action — on your own logged-in session, with randomised human-like delays and a daily cap — and skips listings you refreshed recently. Your shop gets the freshness nudge every day; you get the hour back.
