Depop Refresh vs Relist: Which One to Use (and When)
The three levers, side by side
| Refresh | Relist | Boosted Listings | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What happens | Edit & save — same listing, bumped up | Delete & repost — brand-new listing ID | Paid placement in boosted tiles |
| Views & likes | Kept | Reset to zero | Kept |
| Discount status | Unchanged | Resets to full price | Unchanged |
| Cost | Free (your time) | Free (loses social proof) | 12% per boosted sale (US & UK) |
| Manual time | 30–60 sec each, daily | 3–5 min each | None |
The decision rule
Refresh when the listing has any traction
Views and likes are cumulative popularity signals, and Depop weighs popularity well above listing age. Wiping a listing with 150 likes to chase the new-listing boost is trading a compounding asset for a one-off coupon. Refresh keeps the asset and still re-surfaces you.
Relist when there's nothing left to lose
Relisting makes sense when the listing has sat for weeks with few views and no likes, isn't boosted, isn't discounted — and ideally you've fixed something while you're at it (better first photo, corrected category, sharper price). The new-listing boost into the "New" feed is a real but one-time event; use it on listings that get a genuine second chance from it.
Boost when the item has proven demand
Depop's Boosted Listings is the only way to pay for ranking, at 12% of every boosted sale. It's rational for a proven item in its peak season; it is not a maintenance strategy — a $2,000/month boosted seller pays $240/month forever.
How often to do each
- Refresh: a daily pass over the whole shop is the working norm; more adds nothing. Randomised pacing looks human; machine-gun editing looks like a bot.
- Relist: a weekly pass over your stalest items is plenty. Depop publishes no "right" frequency, and twice-a-day relisting only trips trust systems.
- Boost: per-item, seasonal, and only when the item already converts.
Automating the refresh half
Relisting involves judgement (which listings are truly dead?) and is best kept manual for now. The refresh, though, is pure repetition — which makes it the part to automate. Depop Bump handles the daily edit-and-save pass across your whole shop with human-like delays and stale detection, so your traction-bearing listings stay warm while you decide what's worth relisting.
